Local walking trails approved to join new walks scheme

Minister Dara Calleary announced today that 22 new trails will be joining his Department's Walks Scheme.

Local walking trails across the Shannonside region have been approved to join the Department Rural and Community Development's Walking Scheme. Minister Dara Calleary announced today that 22 new trails will be joining his Department's Walks Scheme. Four walking trails in Co. Roscommon have been included in todays announcement. The Knockvicar Looped Bog Walk, Tarmon Bog Walk, Kiltullagh Church Walk and Carrowbehy Raised Bog Walk will all now join the walking scheme.

The Walks Scheme facilitates the development and maintenance of key walking trails by private landholders. Minister Calleary also announced over €465,000 in funding for 49 trails already on the Walks Scheme. The Leitrim Way Trail received €10,000 for new signage, drainage materials and trail furniture. Meanwhile in Co. Roscommon, the Lung Lough Gara Way and Suck Valley Way both received €10,000 for improvement works.
