Theatres in the Shannonside Northern Sound region say the outlook is bleak in terms of attendances at events and performances post Covid-19.

The National Campaign for the Arts is seeking an investment of at least 20 million euro to in response to the pandemic.

It has produced a 13 point plan for the survival and recovery of the arts sector which includes support for individual artists and groups, venues, the expansion and simplification of grant schemes and on issues such as tax and insurance.

General Manager of the Backstage Theatre in Longford, Mona Considine says restrictions on audience attendance will make it very difficult to operate without a loss.
