There are currently just 7 Community Gardaí operating in the Roscommon/Longford Garda Division. That's according to Sinn Féin TD Claire Kerrane, who says the numbers are nowhere near enough.
Deputy Kerrane raised the issue with Taoiseach Simon Harris in the Dáil recently, warning that the reduction in the number of Gardai would have consequences locally. Speaking to Shannonside News, Deputy Kerrane said more Gardaí were badly needed in local communities:
