A local TD has defended comments he made this week in the Dáil regarding immigration. Michael Fitzmaurice says he wants an open conversation about the issue following yesterday's riots at City West in Dublin. The public disorder followed a protest outside asylum seeker accommodation following the alleged sexual assault of a young girl.
During Leader's Questions yesterday, he said people were afraid to discuss immigration for fear of being labelled a racist. The Independent Ireland TD says local communities are concerned with Government policy:
