Local school pay tribute to former student

Teachers recall his humility, generosity of spirit and willingness to help others.

A county Roscommon secondary school has paid tribute to a former student following his passing.

Captain Philip Gilbert Muldowney died following a live firing incident in Northumberland on Sunday.

The late Mr Muldowney previously attended Elphin Community College.

A former Head Student, Gilbert is being remembered as a quiet, kind leader who set a positive example and was deeply involved in sport and debating.

He achieved first place nationally in Leaving Certificate Engineering at the ETTA Awards 2019, as well as third place nationally for his Higher Level project.

Teachers recall his humility, generosity of spirit and willingness to help others.

He is fondly remembered at the school, where his Head Student photograph hangs above the main entrance.
