A local MEP says the government must speed up its response to emergencies.

Midlands-North-West MEP Ciaran Mullooly has highlighted the need for a new European initiative to fast-track support in large scale weather events such as Storm Éowyn.

He warned that delays in enacting support measures caused people waiting up to 10 weeks for generators and electricity to be restored in Co. Leitrim during the storm last year.
