Local equality activist expresses disappointment over new church directive on same sex couples

In a statement from the Vatican this week, Pope Francis said priests cannot bless same-sex unions, since God cannot bless sin.

A well-known Longford equality activist has expressed disappointment over the latest statement from the Catholic Church regarding same-sex relationships.

Longford LGBT activist Siona Cahill says while she is disappointed, she's not surprised at the recent Catholic church directive on not allowing blessings for same-sex couples.

Siona who's also a former President of the Union of Students in Ireland says while she grew up in a happy Catholic tradition the constant rejection by the church has led to a total move away from the church and her faith.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show today the Longford woman says it's very sad that the Catholic church has chosen to reject such a large cohort of people who are living the same lives as everyone else:
