A People Before Profit candidate is calling on the Government to develop more rail infrastructure in County Longford. Dave Smyth believes the Dublin to Sligo rail line that runs through the county could be better served with the strategic reopening of certain rail stations. He highlighted the former site of the Newtownforbes train station that is now a residential dwelling.
The PBP candidate is calling for Iarnrod Eireann to identify a section of land in the village and reopen passenger services on the busy commuter line. Dave Smyth believes the Green Party, as a member of Government, should be taking these opportunities to limit the number of cars on the road:
