A local councillor has welcomed news today that a planning application has been lodged for a major extension at Portiuncula University Hospital.
The €12 million-euro development will include new patient cubicles and a gynaecology treatment room.
It will also see significant changes to the main entrance, existing traffic flow and ambulance bays.
Fine Gael Councillor Alan Harney says the new extension is a vote of confidence in the future of the hospital.
