The environmental watchdog is calling for household bins to be inspected to make sure recycling and food waste are being disposed of correctly. The EPA says the 'general waste' bin is overused by some homes and businesses. The agency's latest report, looking at environmental enforcement across local authorities, found no region scored in the 'excellent' standard.
Meanwhile a Leitrim councillor thinks local authorities need to do more to tackle the issue. Speaking to Let's Talk earlier today, Fianna Fail Councillor Paddy O'Rourke believes that education is needed rather than enforcement:
