Local Cllr says he wasn't informed of application to house asylum seekers at Hayden's Hotel

Claddagh Ventures, who own the hotel, say the declaration had been sought by a third party.

A local councillor says he wasn't informed of an application to house asylum seekers at a landmark hotel in Ballinasloe. The higher planning authority have given the go ahead for accommodation at Hayden's Hotel. A declaration was previously sought from Galway County Council on whether the works were 'exempted development'.

This was refused but the decision was successfully appealed to An Comisiun Pleanala. Claddagh Ventures, who own the hotel, say the declaration had been sought by a third party. They say they've no intention to provide accommodation to displaced persons at the hotel. Fine Gael councillor Alan Harney said he found out about the development through local media:
