A Leitrim councillor has tipped Ulster University professor Deirdre Heenan to be the next Irish President.
The Derry-based professor is in the final stages of negotiations to become Fianna Fáil's candidate, according to the Irish Independent.
Heenan was appointed to the Irish President's Council of State in 2012 by Michael D Higgins.
Fine Gael’s Mairead McGuinness and Independent Galway TD Catherine Connolly have already thrown their hats into the ring.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, local councillor Paddy O'Rourke say Heenan would be the ideal candidate for his party:
