A toolkit to boost women's representation in Local Government will be launched in Longford today.
Women make up just a quarter of all councillors across the country with just 11 per cent of representatives in Longford being women.
The National Women's Council is hoping to boost their numbers through this new initiative.
It will launched at the council offices in Longford this morning and includes a 10-step plan for embedding family-friendly practices in local government.
It details the development of parental supports such as maternity leave, childcare and good hybrid working practices
National Women's Council spokesperson Rachel Coyle says they want to change things:
"This toolkit that we're launching today is for local authorities to support family-friendly local government so that the barriers for women and people with caring responsibilities who want to enter and remain in politics and what the local authorities can do to assist them with that. It's a practical resource to assist public servants in their day-to-day work".
