The HSE have confirmed that the GP service in Lanesboro will be maintained as part of a new contract recently signed.
It follows the news last month that a new doctor was appointed to start work in Lanesboro in May.
The post had been advertised three times since March of last year but now a candidate has been identified.
Longford TD Micheál Carrigy welcomed the news, saying the new appointment will ensure the GP practice in Lanesboro will be maintained and serve people in its locality
