Just 27 council homes received energy upgrades in the last year in Longford. That's according to a recent update on the Longford County Council climate action plan presented to Councillors last week. The meeting, held last week, heard how 82 new social homes were added to the council portfolio over the last year.
As part of procedures adopted from the Climate Action Plan, all council houses will be upgraded once voided by a tenant, with just 27 retrofitted last year. According to management, the funding for this retrofit programme comes from the Government, with the local authority upgrading the maximum amount allowed by the grants. Longford County Council say the social housing vacancy rate in the county stands at 2.3 percent, with some of those properties awaiting energy retrofits.
