The Irish Road Haulage Association says the numbers of learner drivers on Shannonside roads represents a crisis.
It comes as figures released by the Road Safety Authority show there are over 10-thousand learners on roads in Roscommon, Leitrim and Longford.
There are almost 400-thousand learner drivers on Irish roads according to the latest figures.
10-thousand, six hundred and ten of them are on roads in Roscommon, Leitrim and Longford.
There are over 4-thousand 4-hundred in Roscommon, 2-thousand 3-hundred in Leitrim and almost 3-thousand eight-hundred in Longford.
This represents an increase of 257 since March of this year, just six months ago.
Most learner permit holders in Roscommon are aged between 17-20 (1,277 drivers) and 30 and 39 (822). 11 learner permit holders over the age of 80 while 51 learner permit holders are between 70 and 79 years old.
In Leitrim, most are aged between 17-20 (746 drivers) and 30 and 39 (421 drivers). 4 learners are over the age of 80 while 33 learner permit holders are between 70 and 79 years old in Leitrim.
In Longford, the majority are aged between 17-20 (967 drivers) and 30 and 39 (788). 11 learners are over the age of 80 while 30 learner permit holders are between 70 and 79 years old in Longford.
