A local MEP says Ireland’s fishing industry has suffered a major setback following talks at the EU Fisheries Council in Brussels.
Ciaran Mullooly says Ireland will lose around 57-thousand tonnes of fishing quota for 2026 - a move he warns will hit coastal communities and put jobs at risk.
He says Irish fishermen are being unfairly penalised, despite following strict conservation rules, while non-EU countries continue to overfish.
Mullooly says Ireland has been let down by the failure to apply long-standing protections for fishing-dependent countries.
He told Shannonside FM News the decision is simply unacceptable.
