The Road Safety Authority says waiting times for driving tests have dropped by 63 per cent since April.
The Department of Transport said it wanted to see the wait times fall from an average 27 weeks to 10 weeks by September.
Earlier this week, driving test waiting times reached the 10-week target throughout the Shannonside region.
The delay has dropped to nine weeks in both Carrick-on-Shannon and Longford - and just six weeks in Roscommon.
The RSA says this is a milestone, not a finish line.
