Increased VAT rate could force shutdown of many businesses- Sligo Restaurateur

The reduced 9 percent rate for tourism, hospitality and some other services returned to 13.5 percent at midnight.

A Sligo restaurant owner says the increased VAT rate could shut the doors of many small businesses.

The reduced 9 percent rate for tourism, hospitality and some other services returned to 13.5 percent at midnight.

It means Ireland will now have the third highest hospitality VAT rate in Europe.

Anthony Gray, who owns two restaurants in Sligo Town, says now isn't the right time for the increase:
