Increased numbers at Leitrim Animal Welfare Centre following easing of restrictions

The centre is full of animals that need homes at the moment and can be seen on the centre's Facebook page.

Leitrim Dog Warden Cillian Costigan says the easing of Covid restrictions is being reflected in the increased numbers of dogs in welfare centre.

He was commenting as the Leitrim Animal Welfare Centre posed a Full notice in recent days, advising people that they should not just turn up with a pet they want to surrender.

The centre caters for around 40 dogs at any time and Cillian Costigan says a combination of people being away more again, and children being off school, can lead to challenges in looking after a dog.

He says they've had a lot of collie type dogs that need homes at the moment, and anyone who might be able to provide a good home for them can take a look at their Facebook page.
