Half a million euro for Roscommon heritage and walking trail

It is hoped that future works on the Mote Forest Park Outdoor Recreation Trail will help create a regional interconnected series of trails and cycleways that will work as a major tourism draw post-pandemic.

Major government funding has been announced for an adventure walkway trail in Roscommon this morning.

The Mote Forest Park Outdoor Recreation Trail Experience has been allocated half a million euro to support significant developments at the amenity.

The funding is part of an overall 6 million euro being provided for 14 large-scale projects under Measure 3 of the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.

New plans will see the development of traditional ground trails, along with vertical trails and a large timber viewing tower.

It's hoped the trail will see a cycle link to the Beara-Breffni way and the provision of increased parking infrastructure.

Eilish Feeley from the Mote Park Conservation Group says people have a new appreciation for these amenities following the last year of the pandemic:
