The Government's lack of forward planning has led to Ukrainian refugees being left without accommodation. That's the view of a Sinn Féin activist in south Roscommon following news that over 100 people will have to leave local centres. The government intends to shut down state accommodation facilities for Ukrainian refugees from August, on a phased basis. There are five centres in Roscommon, housing 139 people. Sam Brooks, who ran unsuccessfully in the 2024 local elections, says Ireland was not in a position to take in so many in the first place. He says failed policy is to blame for the current situation:
