The government has come under fire for its support over a proposed LNG terminal, which could impact the Shannonside region.
Speaking during Leaders' Questions, Labour leader Ivana Bacik called for targeted energy credits and an investment in renewable energy to reduce long-term costs.
Last December, Micheál Martin confirmed the government would proceed with plans to build a terminal at Shannon to protect energy costs.
This would have come as a blow to campaigners in Leitrim, who successfully lobbied the introduction of a ban on fracked gas.
