Garda patrols on Shannon are needed to tackle crime spree - Fitzmaurice

Roscommon Gardaí are currently investigating break-ins at commercial premises in Tulsk, Loughglynn and Ballaghaderreen which occurred late last week.

A local TD says a root and branch analysis of policing in Ireland is needed to tackle burglaries locally.

Independent Ireland TD Michael Fitzmaurice has been speaking following another spate of burglaries in Co Roscommon over the past week.

Roscommon Gardaí are currently investigating break-ins at commercial premises in Tulsk, Loughglynn and Ballaghaderreen which occurred late last week.

The Independent Ireland deputy is calling for major change in the way gardaí are resourced at a local level.

Deputy Fitzmaurice believes checkpoints should be placed on bridges over the River Shannon.

He believes these will catch or deter criminal burglary gangs coming to the area from the Dublin region.
