GAA Centre of Excellence will provide boost to local economy

The plans were unanimously approved by Roscommon County Councillors at a special meeting yesterday.

The development of a state of the art GAA centre of excellence in Roscommon will have major positive effects across multiple sectors. The plans were unanimously approved by Roscommon County Councillors at a special meeting yesterday. The plans will see 3 new full-size grass pitches with 15 & 20 metre high floodlighting, 2 new AstroTurf pitches and warm up areas and a seated spectator terrace.

The development also includes a ball wall area, a perimeter walking/running track, a new amenity building incorporating offices, canteen, gym & dressing rooms along with car, bicycle and EV parking. The proposed centre of excellence will be built at the Racecourse Road, Ballyboughan, Roscommon. Speaking to Shannonside News following the meeting, Roscommon Town Councillor Marty McDermott says the centre is not just a benefit to the county in sporting terms:
