Former Senator accuses Government of 'hoodwinking' public over Roscommon refugee accommodation

An Bord Pleanala confirmed submissions on the exemption application for a property on Goff Street in the town have now closed.

A former Fianna Fáil TD has criticised the Government for what he describes as an information vacuum around asylum seeker accommodation.

It comes ahead of an important deadline regarding a proposed development in Roscommon town.

Former TD and Senator Eugene Murphy says elected public representatives must be kept in the loop.

An Bord Pleanala confirmed an exemption application for a property on Goff Street in the town will close this evening at 5.30 pm.

News of the application by Noel Whelan has resulted in calls online for anti-immigration protests in Roscommon.

Eugene Murphy was critical of the Government's approach and accused them of 'hoodwinking people':
