Five Shannonside politicians insist they've been assured a Ballyleague property will not become an IPAS centre. It's after a protest meeting was held in the Roscommon village last night. This Ballyleague property used to be known as Costello's Nursing Home and Care Centre but is no longer run by the Costello family. It currently accommodates Ukrainian refugees. There has been speculation that it'll become an IPAS centre in the coming weeks.
The Department of Migration says it had previously received an offer of international protection accommodation from this property, but this is no longer under consideration. However, around 60 people met outside the hall in Ballyleague to express their concerns it would become an IPAS centre. Five local politicians have released a statement this lunchtime to reiterate that won't be the case - Roscommon councillors Larry Brennan and Nigel Dineen, Lanesboro councillor Sean Mimnagh, Castlerea-based senator Gareth Scahill and Ballyleague-based MEP Ciaran Mullooly. They have outlined, as well as the minister's office, the management of the centre have confirmed they have no plans for the centre to be used as an IPAS centre.
