There are fears of a major jobs blow in Longford town.
Shannonside FM understands Fresh Today is considering closing its production plant for school lunches and moving operations to Tipperary.
The company says no final decision has been made, but it is reviewing a range of options.
Fresh Today serves over 450 schools around the country with lunches.
One of its production facilities is in the Royal Canal Business Park on the Athlone Road, just outside Longford town, which employs a significant number of people.
Shannonside FM understands staff were told on Monday that Fresh Today is considering shutting the plant and moving production to its facility in Nenagh, Co Tipperary, which can prepare a lot more meals each day.
Fresh Today told Shannonside FM no decision has been made regarding any changes to its production operations.
It says, like many business, it is experiencing significant cost pressures, including increasing food costs, rising operating expenses and proposed minimum-wage increases.
It says, as a result, it is currently reviewing a range of operational options.
Fresh Today adds it has been engaging with its staff and will continue to keep them informed of any developments.
However, it says no plans have been finalised.
