The Famine Way Remembrance Walk will commence this Sunday from Strokestown in County Roscommon.
The event marks the assisted emigration of 1,490 people from the town in 1847 at the height of the famine.
Members of the public are invited to walk the entire 165km or to walk 'A Day in their Footsteps' along the route.
A 'Canadian Wake' will take place in Strokestown Park House this evening at 7 o'clock.
