Irish Rail is appealing to everyone to obey the rules of the road when approaching level crossings after a serious incident in Roscommon this morning.
The Athlone-Westport service is running with delays of up to 20 minutes after a car smashed through the barrier at around 10am this morning at Knockcroghery.
The barrier has now been fully repaired and Gardai and Irish Rail have launched seperate investigations.
