A People Before Profit candidate for Longford/Westmeath has called on those who protest at local refugee accommodation sites to move the protest to Government Buildings. Dave Smyth made the call in response to questions around public concerns on the housing of refugees locally in the Shannonside Region.
Speaking on the Let's Talk General Election Debate this week, the PBP candidate stated that local protests outside accommodation do nothing except scare refugees. He believes that local protests are easily ignored by Government Ministers, and for them to be effective, they must be visible to those in charge:
