Fr Joe O'Brien knew him well and paid a glowing tribute to the young man.

The 22-year-old man who died in a crash in east Galway has been remembered for his welcoming smile and his love of machinery.

Simon Quinn's funeral Mass took place this afternoon in St Bernard's Church in Abbeyknockmoy, where he lived.

He was the driver of a car that was involved in a single-vehicle collision at Ballintava, Dunmore, last Friday at around 2.30am.

He was rushed to University Hospital Galway with serious injuries and died on Sunday.

A tipper truck, a lorry licence, a digger, a country music CD and a photo of his family, were among the gifts brought up at his funeral.

Fr Joe O'Brien knew him well and paid a glowing tribute to the young man.
