Drop in Ukrainian refugees attending Shannonside schools

In terms of primary education as of June 22nd 2026, 627 students were enrolled across Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon.

The Shannonside region has recorded a decrease in the number of students enrolled in schools from Ukraine compared with this time last year.

The figures have been published on the Central Statistics Office's official website.

Early iterations of the CSO's 'Arrivals from Ukraine in Ireland' series of releases focused on the cumulative total of beneficiaries of temporary protection (BoTP).

However, from last July, the release focused on the estimated cohort present in the country.

This, according to the office, is deemed more appropriate as some arrivals may have subsequently left the State.
