Dozens of cows on a Co. Roscommon farm have been destroyed by Department of Agriculture officials.
The Department confirmed it carried out an 'enforcement operation' yesterday, with support and assistance from Gardaí.
It's understood the operation took place as a result of animal welfare concerns at the farm.
In a statement, the Department says it has 'lead policy responsibility for animal welfare' and any 'neglect of or causing unnecessary suffering to animals is not acceptable.'
It's reminding the public to report incidents of animal cruelty or neglect to its confidential helpline, on 01 607 2379.
