Councillor Enda Stenson has been voted as the new Cathaoirleach of the Carrick on Shannon Municipal District.
The Independent representative was appointed to the position by his fellow council members at today's Annual Meeting of the LEA.
Councillor Stenson replaces Sean McGowan in the role with Councillor Finola Armstrong Maguire taking up the position of leas Cathaoirleach.
Councillor Stenson says housing is extremely important in the Carrick-on-Shannon MD and that's something he's hoping to work on.
''We have got to progress a certain level of housing within the area and that's a must and that's not just social housing, we're talking about family housing also because we have the new Carrick Campus and that's a very exciting venture for Carrick but no company can come in unless there's housing for the people ands that's important in the Carrick on Shannon MD.''
