A Ballaghaderreen councillor is expressing concern after the value of insurance claims settled by Roscommon County Council rose by almost a third last year. Over 870,000 euro was paid out to 130 people, compared to less than 665,000 euro for 70 claims in 2022.
Last year the council settled seven claims for footpath injuries, for over 355,000 euro - an average of almost 51,000 euro per claim. Independent councillor Micheál Frain says it is worrying:
