Concerns have been raised about hanging and damaged telecommunications cables across parts of County Roscommon following last winter's storms. While broadband services were restored quickly, it's believed the physical infrastructure has not been fully repaired in many rural areas.
Areas like Fairymount, Lisacul and routes towards Castlerea have seen long stretches of cable remain hanging along roadsides and across farm entrances. Senator Gareth Scahill warned that with verge-cutting and seasonal farm work approaching, low-hanging wires could create serious hazards:
