Concern has been expressed over the reduced class sizes in county Leitrim.
Figures published by the Irish Independent show that the average class size in the county for 2024-25 stood at 22.6.
Despite this, Councillor James Gilmartin says many rural schools are still struggling with numbers, resources, staff and other infrastructure.
He feels additional measures would ensure rural communities benefit from improvements locally:
