That's according to data released by the CSO, which reveals over 560 housing units across the Shannonside region received planning permission in 2025.

That's according to data released by the CSO, which reveals over 560 housing units across the Shannonside region received planning permission in 2025.
This includes, 185 in Co. Longford, 132 in Co. Leitrim, and 221 in Co. Roscommon.

The figures from the CSO show there's been a 7.9 per cent increase in permissions granted nationally.
But Roscommon senator Gareth Scahill says that number needs to be ramped up:

New planning permission laws being introduced will simplify the process of obtaining the green light for home renovations and upgrades.
Senator Scahill says this will allow local authorities to focus on bigger planning projects and boost housing across the region:
