Calls for reform to habitual residence condition

One such incidence sees a woman who lives in county Fermanagh look after a family member in county Leitrim.

Renewed calls have been made in Leitrim for urgent reform of the habitual residence condition in social welfare law.

Cllr Pádraig Fallon told this month's monthly meeting of the local authority, that the clause - a requirement that applicants must show they are genuinely residing in the State, is having a severe impact locally.

One such incidence sees a woman who lives in county Fermanagh look after a family member in county Leitrim.
