Midlands businessman Michael Ganly says the idea of 'doing nothing' in the face of the Ukrainian crisis is the main reason behind this Saturdays fundraising drive at his hardware store.
The businessman who owns Ganlys hardware stores in Athlone, Longford and Mountbellew will donate all profits at the Athlone store this Saturday to the Irish Red Cross Ukrainian appeal.
He says like most people he'd thinking of what he could do to help the Ukrainian people, and he's been backed by his staff who have already pledged €10,000 to the appeal.
People in Longford and Mountbellew will be able to make donations in store on Saturday if they want to help, but it's also planned to have a fundraising day in these stores, similar to the Athlone event, at a later date.
Michael Ganly says we should all remember that the Ukrainian people are fighting not just for their own country, but for democracy everywhere.
