Carrick on Shannon has been named Ireland's Tidiest Town. It was announced this afternoon at the National SuperValu Tidy Town Awards in Dublin. There are big celebrations in Carrick on Shannon this afternoon as it was named Ireland's Tidiest Town. The awards which celebrate the work of Tidy Towns groups across the country have been taking place in Croke Park today.
Carrick was also named the county winner in Leitrim whilst Keadue took home the Roscommon title and Abbeyshrule winning in Longford. Gold medals went to Ballintubber, Roscommon Town and Keadue in Roscommon. Carrick on Shannon received a gold medal in Leitrim whilst Longford Town and Abbeyshrule picked up gold in Co. Longford. A silver medal went to Castlecoote in Co. Roscommon. Finally, Bronze medals were awarded to Drumlish and Newtowncashel in Co. Longford, Dromod in Co. Leitrim and Cloontuskert and Tarmonbarry in Co. Roscommon.
