Tributes are being paid in west Roscommon after a garda with local connections was killed in Dublin yesterday afternoon. Kevin Flatley was struck by a motorbike while carrying out a speed checkpoint. The 49-year-old lived in Dublin, but his dad was from Cloooncrim in Ballinlough.
He's the first Garda killed on duty since Detective Garda Colm Horkan was murdered in Castlerea in 2020. Senator Gareth Scahill, who lives in Ballinlough, is expressing his condolences to the Flatley family:
Books of Condolences will be open at Garda stations across the Shannonside region today in memory of Garda Flatley. Members of the public are being invited to express their sympathies to the 49-year-old father of two following his tragic death yesterday afternoon.
Books of condolences has opened at Roscommon, Sligo, and Carrick-on-Shannon Garda stations.
