The Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise has defended the decision to ban the practice of reposing in churches. Bishop Paul Connell had informed parishes in the diocese that it would be stopped from Monday next. The decision has been met with disappointment from both parishioners and public representatives.

Longford councillor Paul Ross has expressed his frustration and said it put undue pressure on funeral directors and families. Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show today, Bishop Connell says it's about maintaining the sacred aspect of churches:
