Solicitor Maria McCahill, from Ballintubber, has emerged as a contender for Senator Gareth Scahill's seat on Roscommon County Council.
She will contest the selection convention on April 14th.
The deadline for nominations is this Sunday and Roscommon town's Robbie McConn, Castleplunkett's Ruth Connolly-Conboy and Ballinlough's Michael McGreal are also confirmed candidates.
McCahill is aged in her 40s and is a solicitor in Kiltimagh, Co Mayo.
Scahill was elected to the Seanad last month and had to step down as a councillor for the Roscommon Local Electoral Area.
