The Ballintubber community wants Gail Murray to replace local man Anthony Waldron on Roscommon County Council.
She has been selected by the village to take his seat, but councillors will have the final say.
Waldron was an Independent councillor for the Roscommon Local Electoral Area, which includes Castlerea.
He died at his home in Ballintubber on February 9th, at the age of 64, and his council seat has been vacant for the past seven weeks.
The community in Ballintubber have held several meetings about who should replace him.
They ultimately nominated local community activist Gail Murray and her name has been sent to the council as their nomination.
Gail says she’s delighted and confirms she wants the seat.
Councillors, though, will have the final say at a future meeting.
Former councillor, TD and senator Eugene Murphy also says he would be willing to replace Waldron, but only if the Ballintubber community doesn’t put someone forward.
That means Gail Murray is the strong favourite for the seat.
