Almost 60 fines have been issued by gardaí locally for non-compliance of e-scooter regulations.
The figure comes following a parliamentary question by Dublin Mid West TD Mark Ward to Minister of Justice, Jim O'Callaghan.
Since May 20th 2024, e-scooters are legal on Irish roads.
You do not need a licence to ride one and your e-scooter does not have to be registered, taxed or insured.
The scooter must meet technical requirements, including a maximum weight of 25 kilos or less and a maximum speed of 20 km per hour or less.
Gardaí can confiscate the e-scooter if the rider is under 16.
According to department figures, 38 fines have been issued in the Mayo-Roscommon-Longford Garda division.
In Sligo-Leitrim, 20 fines have been issued.
Nationally, a total of 1,694 fines have been issued.
