A brother of former Leitrim GAA chairman Gerry McGovern says he was a “wonderful” family man, with a “passion” for Gaelic football.
His funeral Mass took place in Cloone today after he died following a short illness on Wednesday.
He's survived by his wife, Kathleen, sons Ciaran and Gavin and daughter Jacinta.
Gerry was a former Leitrim footballer and referee before becoming an official, including being president of Connacht GAA.
This was reflected in the gifts brought to the altar – including Cloone and Leitrim jerseys, a football and a whistle.
His brother Fr Ciaran McGovern is the parish priest of Newtownforbes in Co Longford – and he paid tribute to him at the funeral Mass:
