A local MEP is urging Longford County Council to avail of new funding to deliver jobs for Lanesboro.
A total of €30 million from the European Commission's Just Transition Fund will be made available through the new START scheme only through applications from local authorities.
Independent Ireland MEP Ciaran Mullooly has confirmed Longford County Council has purchased a site in Lanesboro and 40 new jobs could be on the way in the peat-related industry.
He says Lanesboro has not benefited from the Just Transition Fund to the extent that it should have, and is calling on the council to create job opportunities for the area:
