120 primary schools in the Shannonside region are currently availing of the Hot School Meals Programme. The figures were revealed following a parliamentary question by Cork North West TD John Paul O'Shea to Social Protection Minister Dara Calleary. 58 out of 78 eligible schools in Roscommon are currently availing from the programme.
Meanwhile, 33 out of 37 eligible schools in Longford are availing from Hot meals whilst 29 out of 34 schools in Leitrim are benefiting from the programme. Longford Cllr Paul Ross says the programme guarantees healthy meals for school children across the region:
